Tutor Spotlights
M SSgt USAF Shakira Monet
It is truly inspiring to see Master Sergeant Shakira Monet dedicate her time for a transformative cause. Balancing the high-stakes responsibilities of the U.S. Air Force with a commitment to tutoring through the Great Plains Literacy Council (GPLC) speaks volumes about her character.
The U.S. Citizenship test is a rigorous challenge, covering complex topics in civics, history, and government. Having a mentor who lives and breathes those values every day undoubtedly makes the material more tangible for her students. Many adult learners may be juggling work and family while trying to study.
Shakira brings a firsthand perspective on the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship, helping students move beyond rote memorization to a true understanding of the American system. By volunteering, she is helping people unlock better job opportunities and a stronger voice in their communities.
Thank you Shakira for your service and dedication to your students.
